Like it I saw a lad in Ireland put some triple extension ladders up against a wall and reverse the 7 1/2 to press them against the wall and he climbed to the top with a pole chainsaw to cut a branch off haha was crackers Owa there

Absolutely nothing to do with skill or "how good a climber" you are, resorting to that argument is bottom of the barrel.

 

arguably it does take more skill to work within the rules that's why people break them, but the point i am trying to get across is that if 1000 arborist's read this and think its ok then you have 1000 people of different skill levels one handing with a chainsaw which can cause catastrophic injuries in a split second, that could end someones one career and why, because they read on arbtalk it was ok to do, saved time and money and is the sign of a good arborist. sorry but i beg to differ. challenge yourself for one week to use both hands and see what you think makes the better arborist one hand or two

I started with tree work in 1986 came out of it after a few years then started again 9 years ago and I have tried every conceivable method, back hand, fore hand, between the legs, upside down, back to front, inside out, you name it I have done it.

 

Using a saw two handed all the time, does not suddenly make you a good arborist nor using it one handed make you a bad arborist.

 

You are clearly missing my point

 

95% of tree sureons one hand and maybe cut and hold.

 

With that sort of percentage dont you think training should be provided when doing your cs units to encompass this and demonstrate safe and unsafe cutting, rather than someone new to the industry learning from what they see.

 

Newbies are taught correct cutting when felling so when unleashed unto the world, they instantly recognised dodgey bad practice and can choose whether or not to follow suit. If they are not taught safe use of a saw one handed, then they will have to make a judgement for themselves as to what they are seeing is good or bad

 

I would say that if 95% of people cut using one hand, then it cannot be all bad, there must be some parts of that cutting that can be seperated out as completely safe and training provided

 

So 5% are right and 95% are wrong, that's democrasy for you.

 

I personally want to see a form of cut and hold taught within a cs unit, because I know, that under cirtain circumstances it is much safer than cutting with two hands

Is that safer for the climber or looking at the job as a whole, i.e. safer in terms of damaging something below?

I think safer may have been the wrong word in that sentence, efficient would have been a better word to use there, as I know you are going to mention slings.

 

Safer has in two hands "close in" or one hand at "arms length"

Just come back from picking up my little brother. Was walking done the road and head the sounds of a chipper and saw running, walked past the house the lads where working at and up in the tree was a guy with a 200t sat on a branch operating one handed, no ppe not even a helmet and saftey glasses and nothing attaching him to the tree same goes for the groundie operating the chipper..............these are the guys that need to be out of buisness!!!!!!
