Just as an aside; I wonder how many of the older climbers reading this started out free climbing nearly every tree they worked on. I know most of my stuff I did when I started out was free climbed off the top of a three section ladder (something I'm not particularly proud of and something I definately do not instill in trainees today) because I didn't know any better. It was how I was shown by the guy I worked for. These days I'm roped in or stropped in as soon as I'm off the floor as near as damn it.

point taken Mark. I'm not old, by any means but started doing this stuff in the woods with real old school guys in their 60's n 70's they're H&S goes as far as ear defender sona good day...but they're still alive! So i guess it rubbed off we didn't have to do much climbing to get stuff down safe for the mill but i rember my first bit of climbing involved a sweet chestnut 18t 360 and a 361 and not alot else! :o proper job!:001_tt2: but times change.

remember guys were are the professionals for one reason! we do it properly! it takes one slip, one rotten branch etc. and this is why we are trained to do it the safe why. i just my landyard when needed! always on my harness! can be used to resuces too and lots of other handy uses u can imgaine into thoses funny sitiutations.

Try putting a prussik just above ur spliced eye and then u can use that tail as well as ur main line, landyard. this could give you help for thoses dodgey occaisions. it could also be used as a redirect. install two ropeguides etc! think out side the box and climb safe more importantely
