Yes, a few times. Some trees are not fit to climb.

Twice I went back up the next day and nailed it after a night of terror.

 

More than a few times I have been unable to do/get as high as I want, and bombed dead tops out causing very little collateral damage!

I did on a nasty lombardy,I did it the next day after a restless night,theres a few I priced myself out of as I just didnt want them.

Everyones got limits & can feel under the weather,at least I have /can!

yes, just before chrimbo in the snow, the trees were covered in ice and were swaying about, i was freezing and just didnt feel right. Every cut my heart was sinking so i came down and felt like a coward. I told the customer i would come back after the snow had melted, i was going to get another climber in.

Went back 1 day with the sun shining, a new chain on the saw and 90 mins later, 3 trees topped and on the deck.

Its not loosing bottle its putting safety first, and like Mark says, a few bits of colateral damage to a bush or gravel path is best sometimes.

I've had my confidence dented once or twice and come out of a tree with low self esteem. On a couple of occasions I've made a mistake that has caused damage (to property) and been so angry with myself that I've fallen out with the trade. I've been in the trade since I was 17, counting college and had a few different jobs but none have brought anywhere near as much enjoyment as this one has

I've worked on lots and lots of big trees. Some much bigger than this, but I couldn't bring myself to climb up past and old tear out to get to the top.

 

A mewp that could get to this tree would be mega bucks.

ive had a few but as mentioned before a re think usually sorts the problems out.If it does'nt feel right my advice is dont push it as your confidence will be stretched and things could go wrong.

How tall? Over here we have a guy who hires out his 160 foot MEWP, for £52 per hour.....

get yourself into the fork below and get a pole with a silky on it, or thump it off big and let it roll:biggrin:

Na, that a special chestnut right beneath it and dropping bits on it is out the question. It would need to be thown out over the tree in pieces.
