Chainsaw Clothing

[TRADITIONAL LOGGERS]

A friend who works in an office has been bought a new "leisure" model Husqvarna by Santa's wife to saw up firewood on a wooden bench at home. I know from a safe/sense viewpoint he should be wearing basic chainsaw clothing but where does the law stand on this as a novice/leisure person.

 

I asked if he had a helmet with ear/eye protection and the response was I am not doing it for a living. He does not even own steel capped work boots!

Correct me if I'm wrong but if a chainsaw is used for home use only you don't need to comply with h&s but they should at least wear basic safety kit we have all seen what can happen when you don't know what your doing. I know a few home users that have done nptc as a guide to help them use a saw.

All you need to be with in H&S is ear defender and thats IT You can cut a tree down naked aslong as you have ear defenders on.What we have been told by our tutors

 

But i would get some chainsaw trousers and boots Rather be safe then sorry

You can do what you want. Thats why one of my friends neighbours cut their theigh open while cutting logs. Fortunatly it didn't get down to the artery. A few colleges run chainsaw for homeowner courses. For the sake of adding 80 quid to a domestic chainsaw they could throw in some chainsaw trousers.
