Do you mean the Quadchip 160 (formerly 150) ?

I had one on demo for a couple of days and would say the following:

1) Excellent chip throw

2) Nice control panel

3) Good chute, feed table and controls

4) Gutsy but not surprising given the over 30hp blown Kubota inside; can't comment on fuel consumption.

5) Nice to tow.

6) Good chip quality (small)

7) Better than average stress-control.

8) Love the turntable.

But then I borrowed a tatty old jensen the next day and realised;

The infeed rollers are insufficiently sprung i.e. do not hold the material hard enough - no excuse as this was a brand new machine.

The speed at which it fills a chip box is nothing amazing and with the new design with reverse mounted engine comes additional complication. General robustness is unproven given the newness of the model...

Yes the 160 roadtow one. I saw it at the APF show early this year. I was quite impressed with it, but your right the rollers are the wrong way round. I don't think they grip the branches enough as well as normal machine do. it is lightweight and that does matter when it comes to towing. neat little package.

There is a reason it is lighter, it isnt made with as strong a stuff as the heavier models. a 1 man band that will be gentle with it, i would say yes. To be worked hard and bounced about behind a truck 6 days a week getting abused, i wouldnt. They are a lot of money aswell since they are so new, not really a second hand market yet.

I may be biased but.............................

The Birmingham contract is spit into four parts, three of the contractors are using QuadChips and the fourth is looking to buy them as well.

Nuff said?

Happy and Prosperous New Year to you All - whatever you use.

Acorn tree surgery in the Midlands run 8 quadchips! says something really and this will be my next machine i think.

does it say they are nice and light so legally the youngsters can tow them behind the vans? or does it say they are awesome chippers?

Have you spoke to any of the operators about them?:001_smile:

No i havnt but i would not buy 8 of something if they wernt any good!

i guess they tick more box's than most other 6" chippers, eg you get a turntable, 4 blades, is compact and yes the kids can tow em.

i Liked the machine at the APF and will consider it when i get a new machine. I also compared it with the simular machine fron Vermeer and the Greenmech is so much nicer and far better put together IMO.

i am not saying they arent any good, their could be many reasons they opted for 8 quadchips.

1 If most of their staff are young then it is easier to just buy a lighter chipper than put them all through their trailer ticket.

2 The deal could of been very good, say 0% finance for 5 years

3 Buy 7 get 1 free.:laugh1:

If the company after 5 years, replaces the 8 of them with another 8, that would tell me something BUT it might not be the reason WHY they bought them.:001_rolleyes:
