254 xp

[slack ma girdle]

Pesky thing. It fires on full choke, and then runs on half choke for about 5 seconds and then dies. I have checked theat there is fuel getting into the carb. Checked the diaphram, which appears to be intact. I have restored factory settings for the high and low.

Anybody any helpfully ideas. Also approximatley how many turns is the tick over screw from completely closed (turned anticlock wise).

Have you checked the wires going to the ignition coil?? My old 365 did what you describe and it puzzled me for a while until i traced it to a dodgy connection on the coil. Might not be that but its worth a try, only takes seconds to check

Cheers mozza, i have taken out the spark plug, and pulled the start cord. The spark plug was producing a good spark.

But i will go and check the conections.

Surely that can only be fuel starvation. Have you cleaned the jets out ?

It's not a blocked tank vent is it? Could be building vacuum and then taking a while to get fuel back into the carb.

i am going to keep an eye on this thread,way!because like you i have a 254xp and its one tempremental sun of a gun:blushing:

fires after about 12 pulls,ive also had new plug,cleaned air filter etc[still a swine]

after its started,get into a cut and if it feels any resistance it cuts out!sometimes put the chain break on cuts out??

then it goes on a good cutting run,cuts out and is then difficult to start:blushing:

Isn't the 254 the old legend? I had my eyes on one that was sat on the shelf at a firm I worked was gonna make the boss an offer then some tw#t went and nicked it first.
