Sounds like martians testicles, apparently they bury themselves in the soil with just their testicles sticking out of the ground, through which they breathe.

 

They only appear in full at night, where they dance about in the woodlands of the UK

Its true!

 

But before the Martians become visable you have to firstly injest another type of fungi.Small blue-ish pointy mushrooms with a little point on the top.

To be honest the one of the few green fungi there is is green cup fungus. The fungus turns the wood green which was used in the past for fancy woodwork pictures/patterns etc. However the fruiting body is really very small but they are green and may well blow to green dust when old thus dispersing their spores. Hopes that helps ...... it could always be something else but there aren't many green fungi about.
