Not sure if this is the right forum, but I wondered if everyone may care to share their knowledge as regards the specific uses of different species of tree?

Here's some to get going:

Ash, tools handles. Yew, longbows. Elm, cart wheel hubs. Lime, piano sound boards. Willow, fibres for cord. Oak, tannins for leather. Beech, chopping boards, wooden spoons.

The more unusual the better:thumbup:

Ash for shooting brake frames, cart shafts; Box for rulers; Elm for seats, underwater pilings; Alder for gunpowder, clogs; Willow for salicylic acid (Aspirin); Hornbeam for gear wheel cogs; Yew for cancer treatment drugs; Maples for anything food orientated and maple syrup:001_tt2: Birch for wine....the list goes on.

ash for hurley sticks.

 

cut maiden trees at neck height (always fun). Get enough for Irish geezers to be interested then they'll come in and cut them out the ground themselves!

Oak,for lathes,swill baskets,

Ash for yurts,morris minor frames

Hazel,binders ,chairs,twig pens,pencils

sequia,chainsaw carving,,,

rowan,jam

chestnut ,,flooring,trugs,cleft gates..

the list is endless
