353 vs 346

I have felled, snedded and bucked some approximately 19inch - 20inch willow today and it didn't like it much. That was using Stihl RSC chain too which is quite an aggressive chain. My 346 seems to get bogged down quite alot in the cut, where as the 357 just keeps cutting.

Good luck.

Is your 346xp the older 45cc or the new 50cc? The 357xp is 56.5cc. If your 346 is the newer 50cc is it in tune? Sounds like something wrong.

I've owned all 3 of the above and run full 3/8 on all 3. The only one that would start to bog was the 45cc 346 with a full buried bar.

Also check out the new huskys in 562xp 560 555 I hear. Lighter then 357-359 and faster and more power in the cut they say.

Nope, it the new model. There is nothing wrong with my 346, it's tuned to 14,1 i had it checked at the dealers.

Isnt this you too elsewhere. Sounds like something is up to me. :confused1:

(((((((Fun day with my 346xp

Had a fun day yesterday with my 346, it was the only saw i had with me, and was kicking myself for not having my 'new to me' 357 with me. Had to go and sort out a Whitebeam and Willow that had been damaged by the recent bad weather we have had here in the UK. The Whitebeam was lovely wood. Cut the damaged section off and limbed it then set about logging it. The widest part was about 15" and the 346 never missed a beat really. Next up was the Willow, that was about 19-20" and the saw didn't like it at all. Was super quick for limbing but it didn't seem to like being burried in the wood. Really wish i had the bigger saw with me as i really haven't had the chance to give it a full work out other than cutting a bit of firewood. Overall though, beginning to like the 346 now after having a bit of a love hate relationship with it.

Happy days!! )))))))

Maybe you should try a loop of .325 RSC with 7T rim with the 20" :001_rolleyes: and if theat dont work go full skip. Who knows what is really going on clear over there. :laugh1:

I can put a 20" and cut hardwoods. It is what it is, maybe operator error comes into play too. have fun and enjoy figuring it out.

How is what i have said here any different to what i have posted on other forums? I haven't said don't get a husqvarna get a stihl... All i have reported is that i don't hold my 346 in the same esteem as alot of other members do. Maybe something is wrong with it, but the figures and evidence suggest not? It wears a 15" husqvarna bar with Stihl RSC chain. I have recommended that tractormatt buys the next size up saw which would suit his needs better imo. It was still a Husqvarna that i was recommending, so what is the problem?

I was just trying to get the full story behind the bogging. Like running a .325 8T? running 3/8 7T? etc etc.

Since you want to be like that, JMO figure it out your self then jeez, try and help and guy LOL. No more suggestions from me to you . Later..................

You do see me running a stihl in my avatar right . I'm not brand loyal, I buy what I like best in each class of saw. Be it Dolmar, Redmax, Solo, Husky, Echo, Stihl, Poulan, Partner, etc.

The 346 is provided by work. The 260 and 357 are my saws. It's running a .325 stihl rsc chain. I am not brand loyal either. I use whatever works best, but when the only choice is a 346 what can i do? It's not me that is asking for help here, it was tractormatt

Thanks for all your thoughts so far

The reason why i thought i would need the class 2 gear was that the husqvarna website says that the chain speed of the 359 and 357 is 21 m/s and i think class 1 is only rated to 20m/s

You should get clothes that work for at least 20m/s.

Not sure how your classes are you refer to, but I think 359, 357, 353, 346 should have same class of protection.

No need to be cheep and get the lower class, better do it right from start!

Get good stuff run like crazy and be happy about it for a long time.

346/357 is allround saws leaning towards limbing saws.

353/359 is allround but leaning toward felling saws more.

Not so high rpm without load perhaps, but Hold rpm better under load.

Here you can almost get two 359 for same price as one 357.

That is really wieard...
