hi we had the loler man in the other day and he wouldnt inspect any splices that wernt done by a certified splicer( ie ones we had done). i am looking to do our own splices for the comp. handy for lanyards etc(and when you cut ropes in half!).the guy said that to become certified one has to send off samples of your splices to the rope manufactures. i was wondering if any body has done this or got any info on the best way to do it . thanks for your help carlos.

Rope companies are not necessary experts on splicing either.

Some companies like Samson have in house Riggers/Splicers so do offer a gimmick like a certificate once you have completed a splice based on there instructions on there Rope.

There is no independent Splicing certification that I know of down here but there may be some rigging courses that you could do.

Maybe someone has done one that can help?

That begs the question can a Factory certified splicer teach anyone ot splice and certify them??

IMO its not a LOLER indpectors job to check about certification his job is to look for wear or damage which would affect the safety of the item. LOLER inspectors should not think they have special powers sorry but its a load of b****cks

So a piece of equipment should not be certified suitable for use? Tell that to your lawyer when an item fails and an employe is killed or injured. The LOLER inspector would be dragged through the courts if he had not noted his findings, and conveyed there recomendations.

What do you mean by "special powers" ?

Try finding an inspector who has the gonads to stand by his quals.....LOLER inspectors should understand the " anatomy " of splicing if they are to inspect AND deliver fair assessments of this part of a climbers eqpt...IMO.
