do they not supply domestic saws with a over size bar in order to slow the chain speed down?? or iam i making things up in my head??

do you guys not find the shorter bars harder on the back?

carl.

the length of the bar or the chain is surely irrelevant to the mps, that's determined by the sprocket size and rpm no?

maybe domestic saws are less "aggressive" because the bar is oversize relative to the engine capacity :confused1:

A shorter bar on a saw will result in quicker acceleration and quicker cutting through any given diameter, resulting in what could be construed to be a more aggressive saw. Try a 21 inch bar on an 088 for fun and games!

It does always make me laugh when you see the toy saws in B&Q sporting a 14 inch bar and a whopping 1 horsepower! You'd have time to make a cuppa during every cut!

The longer the bar, the tighter the chain has to be to stop it sagging. Not only has the motor got to pull more cutters through the wood, it has to overcome more frictional resistance of the chain on the bar.

Big bars on saws for joe public are there because they asume it means a more powerfull saw= more units sold.
