Stihl saws winter operation shutter

Just wondering if in the current freezing weather conditions if anyone else using Stihl chainsaws ever bothers to flip the saws winter/summer operation shutter?

According to the blurb in the owners manual Stihl recommend that the shutter be flipped to the winter position when operating in temps below +10C

I don't usually bother myself, and my saws seem to run ok. But does anyone change theirs over and does it make a difference to the running of the saw?

Is it only a Stihl thing or do other makes of saws have it as well?
