Ice in November to hold a duck...

Ice in November to hold a duck nothing thereafter but slush and muck.

Well the ducks are standing on stiff water. Does anyone place any credence on these old sayings?

Interesting to note that the three coldest winters in living memory all started just after Xmas with nothing to note in November.

As the days grow longer the cold grows stronger.

-7C here last night, hope it doesnt drop much more than that!! Interestingly the Met office poo-poohed the old wives tales the other day, saying they use scientific ways to predict the weather, yet I saw in the Telegraph that they forecast a mild winter for us, whereas all the natural indicators point to a harsh winter.

It was pretty cold here in Oregon too.

We just got a shot of what would be considered colder than usual January temperatures during any winter. Rarely do we see the teens.

And we just got down to 18 degree F.

That would be (minus) - 7.7 degrees C.

Now we are back above freezing a little bit.
