Keep yours eyes covered, or the tree surgeons squint and your mouth shut... you nose is very good at filtering

i did 3years of plane pollards and they always made me wretch if they were in leaf. this year we lifted some of the biggest trees in the city two or three days after the leaves came out (no masks and two of us were physically sick on site) 3 months later i had a tumor removed from my nasal cavity (benign but was touching go according to the docs) the nose is a good filterer so carcinogens will get stuck up there.

Now i'm not saying it was due to planes, (docs also said it was a fair guess) i was a smoker but i wont be trying to test out any theories.

wear a mask!

what is it that causes the irritation. Is it a lichenous dust on the bark or is it the dust created when cutting/chippingthe wood?

Rec climbed these loads you see and i've never hada problem. awesome moves, the branches and all so long, twisty turny and strong as hell. Used to call them the bungee tree.

neoprene type mask used by the bicycle couriers. i got a tiger print purple one once from halfords. you could also change the filter in them.
