For round filing i use a Stihl file guide and Stihl files works great for me.

When the file is getting a little knackered you can put on much more pressure with the guide especially on the boss'es MS 180 with a 4mm file.

 

But it has to be freehand for the Square filed chains:001_smile:

if i have wrecked a chain i use an electric grinder for a quick sharpen i use a file guide but sometimes i find that after i use the electric grinder it hardens the cutter and the file just skites off and doesnt do nowt

i use a filling guide, but for the rackers after every 3-4 sharpens i give each racker1-2 files, n my saw cuts beautifly, its chucks out lumps of 4 by 2 and still gives a smooth cut

Turn the bit near the saw round to 6 o'clock and its a wild boar sausage! :biggrin:

come on guys its 11 at night and im not feeling peckish :sneaky2:.

 

to add to the thread do any of you use a smaller file than normall when the chain gets over half warn ? or is it just me :confused1:
