I've an unfinished MK4 project crane lorry that may be sold for the right money!

Well yes it is only a bit simpler but at least not having to do a cpc or pay someone to proxy it for you makes it a bit more affordable.

 

Do you know how much a cpc holder costs? And do you need a national O licence to charge and carry other peoples timber?

The CPC holder is an open ended question. Some will do it as a bit of extra along side their hourly paid job and prices vary from area to area.

 

A CPC course will cost you about £400 to £500 plus vat and your time.

 

The “O” licence question is simple, if you are carrying third party goods it needs to be a UK national licence, unless you go abroad then it needs to be an international, not much export on round timber though.

ill probably be selling my mj after christmas,its downrated to 7.5 ton ,hiab,5 brand new tyres as a spare set,mot till june .

Indeed. Of course, if you collected timber from someone else's site, and then sold it back to them, you could then legitimately deliver it to their yard.......

Sorry for derailing the thread a tad but this does have some relevance.

 

I was recently told that all HGV drivers will have to obtain a CPC sometime within the few years or the licence will be revoked! Is this true?

You are quite right, the CPC requirement (more euro legislation) is coming.

It won’t affect the great majority since previous euro legislation has reduced their driving licences to bring them outside the HGV requirement.

 

Now I know the arb world is fond of exemptions, even those it’s not entitled to but for this there ISan exemption.

 

You will not need a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) if the vehicle you drive is carrying material or equipment to be used by the driver in the course of his or her work, provided that driving the vehicle is not the driver's principal activity :thumbup:

DVLA will not be revoking entitlements, if you have the category on your licence they cant take it away.

 

If you dont complete 35 hours of CPC in the next 5 years, you wont be able to work as a driver. You will still be able to drive as part of your work as Andy detailed above.

 

The CPC, confusingly, is not the same as the CPC needed for a standard national O licence. Driver CPC is about keeping up to date with driver related training, ie drivers hours regs, fuel effecient driving, first aid etc.

Andy, are you saying that a C1+E licence holder is not considered to be HGV? And therefore exempt from CPC requirements etc?
