chainsaw accident

yesterday one of my work mates cut his forearm on a chainsaw resulting in a 6 inch long and deep cut needing 18 stitches what is strange is the saw was not running it was in a vice on a bench been shapened all he did was reach to the back of the bench for a box of bolts but caught a newly sharpened cutter and sliced his forearm badly so be warned.

one good thing that came from this was i have made all team members carry a large wound dressing in a resealable bag in the pocket on the side of there chainsaw trousers and even though they were in the workshop with first aid kits at hand the first thing 2 lads did was whip there bandages from trousers and were on before the blood started flowing rather than finding then opening first aid box and then finding a bandage

I hope this makes a few people think about carrying a bandage

most of us climbers carry a first aid kit i hope but how accessible would it be if needed where as in trouser leg pocket would be easier imo

Ha, reminds me of the time my boss had sharpened his big saw up ready for after break, left it on the back of the truck with the bar sticking out over the buck. I walked around the back, and cut the back of my hand on the chain. Basic rule, always cover the bar when saw not in use!!

Matey done the same thing hopping over a fence with the saw...not running but evidently no scabbard...did his arm no favors for real!!

i put 7 stiches in my finger sharpening a saw without glovers, this was when i first started using a saw. dangerous things.

Motor off = cover on! We're getting that drilled into us in work at the moment.
