Vet Oak retrench

Here's an Oak i've been mindful of tickling for a little while.

Not a heavily used footpath, but still a target.

& although a slow decayer, Fistulina can lead to part failure.

 

Trunk is completely hollow up to the main scaffolds.

Lower epicormic suggests that the Tree is well into retrenching itself, but in terms of site access & tree management, it's prudential to give a hand when you can.

 

Noted the brackets around the coalescing wounds at the base of the heavy lower lateral.

 

Decided to reduce the end weight of that particular branch & the surrounding canopy to aid stabilising the crown.

Interesting decay pattern there david, i think this one might have to have a little look at some stage in the not too distant future, I would love to know what fruit bodies are present within this tree, it has the language of both grifola AND dryadeus, an unusual combo. I would like to try and confirm the pressence "scientificaly" if possible.
