Do you know what kind of Oak it was Buck?

 

When I saw the photo I thought it was a sweet chestnut.

 

Turkey oak but not 100% sure...

On the subject of big Redwwoods, one of the largest trees felled near the Hammond Lumber Co. camp #10 in 1901....

 

makes you think how they moved such trees in them days..

and we think were hard done by...

guess it lazyness with all the mod cons nowadays

Love those old pics. Back to the mundane life in the UK, continuation of the planting work posted earlier this week.

The little Honda tiller is brilliant for mixing up the topsoil and compost, and is lightweight enough to lift in and out of the planting pits.

The stock fencing is to dissuade the local muntjac from damaging the birch.
