Open fire/log burner vital heat source or hobby?

Go on how many of you out there spend hour's of your lives playing with your fires?

You know what I mean rotateing and choosing each log and unessary pokeing.

No1 = Hobby (better than telly)

 

No2 = Therapy (mental state) (staring into flames is better than any other S.A.D cure)

 

No3 = Therapy (relationship) (glass of wine, open fire, kids in bed, bliss!)

 

No4 = Business nessessity (got to get those trousers dry by tomorrow somehow)

 

Heat? 'fraid that all goes up the chimney :-(

We have one medium sized stove at home. In cold weather it's almost always on (24/7) - last winter we only put the heating on twice and when we had guests. It keeps the living room at about 22 degrees and the rest of the (3 bedroom cottage style) house at about 12-16. Fine when you consider the wood is free. I'm glad it is though as it chugs through about 3 cube a month.

Been considering an Esse wood-fired range, how d'ya find it? Easy to get up to temp for cooking? Use much wood? Cost, ease of installation etc etc...?

HI steve franco belge do a good wood fire range cooker mate and the best open fire on the market is a jetmaster it convector the heat out mate just the job :thumbup:

we just have a fire basket in open hearth, it only warms the front room, the rest of the house is gas central heating, im not happy till its stacked halfway up the chimney and roaring like a goodun.. proper waste of nice wood (except to dry hiflex/haix etc)
