HI defenderjack yes mate we had td5 90 xtec we had it chip to 200hp plus lots of TQ :laugh1: mate it was just the job but 300 tdi better td5 was 15 mpg not good when dev is now 1.20 per lt what a:laugh1: all the best jon somerset

yeh that is one bonus with the td5 but with a larger intercooler ,better air filter and a tweak of the fuel pump a 300 is trasformed into an even greater engine :thumbup1:(and i dont like the sound of the td5 it means you dont have to have your stereo so loud lol)

I've looking at getting a landy for a while now, whats the mpg like? what are they like for rot? are the hard/expensive to lift yourself? and is there anything i should look out for when buying an old one?

cheers guys!

Lyndon,

MPG varies on what engine you get, Diesel or Petrol. TDi or TD5, 3.5 or 3.9 V8, lots of variables but the diesel do well, and V8's do even better on Gas conversions. I get roughly 250 miles on 80 litres of Gas from a 3.9 V8 Disco running AT's tyres.

Rot depends on the life of the vehicle, they all have there normal rust spots. Discos - Inner front wings, rear wheel arches, boot floor.

Defenders - bulkhead corners, Rear cross member are just some of the areas on the chassis.

Given all of the above a new Galv chassis is not that expensive and a good edition to your truck if you plan on keeping it for the rest of it's life.

Suspension mods are simple enough. I think between 2 of us we fitted a 2" lift to my old disco in 2 hours in the middle of a field at a land rover show. So in a workshop it would be more like an hour with the right equipment.

Main things to think about is what is your budget, what you want to use it for and are you worried about cosmetics of the vehicle as you can pick up some with knackered body work but will have a mint chassis and engine.

Ask on here or any of the land rover forums before buying for advice as to what to look for. Discovery 1 V8 on Gas are reasoanble purchase for around £1500 average price. some may even have lifts on already.

cheers!,sorry i should have been more specfic :). I was looking at getting either a 90 or a 110 with a 2.5 na diesel. Its not how it looks with me its more important its solid & runs properly!

I have been told that lpg is no good for towing, i guess you could drag pretty much anything with a 3.9 v8 but have you noticed any diffrence towing with lpg or do you just switch to petrol when draging a heavy load? sorry to derail a little bit from the thread.

Thanks again!
