Here's another of Tony Sorensen's adaptations, notice the security guard standing beneath the adaptation (a 30ft long x 10" diam broken hanging hybrid Poplar limb, tip hung up in Lime tree opposite), totally oblivious to any risk.

Maybe he just has a half inch thick metal plate in his skull, from the last time he made the spectacular decision to stand under a dynamic widow maker :001_rolleyes:

He'd sat in his mobile office directly under the hanging limb all day, we didn't get to the tree till about 8pm. It had snapped the night before. If the limb had failed while he was sat in the office he'd have been a goner.

Isn't it when you get longitudinal and transverse shear due to tension and compression forces, kind of, well, like a square!

But I guess you already knew that:biggrin:

Large sycamore decided to shed a large limb overnight. Pics taken last summer, and don't really do the size of it justice until you see the mobile phone on the butt end of sheared limb! Proper skull cracker that would have been!
