Heres an oak fail for you, seen today on the way to a job.

Background, stagheaded, damage around bottom, lucky it went into the field,

no obvious fbs, If anyone's interested I'll have another look.

Sometimes it's a bit scary seeing how little can get these on the floor.

Very Interesting.

Any chance of getting a google image of it standing ?

 

 

 

Roots look white rotted.

Soil looks good in the Charente region (is that where it is?), what do they grow around there?

Red chestnut that snapped out in high winds at the weekend.

 

Pluerotus hosting on the the seem of disfunction coming up from the roots.

 

You can see the sheets of mycelium which are facilitating the white rot of the exposed wood.

 

Plenty of bug activity on the trunk.

May fell, may just reduce, haven't decided yet.

 

The last couple of shots show the tree trying to throw down adventitious roots from the callous tissue.
