not a laboratory test but tried cutting an old stihl groundy boot with a saw, ms460, willow log inside it, first cut the ankle and saw went straight through, then cut toes off just back from toecap and again saw went straight through, no blocking material made it to the sprocket at all, the saw struggled a bit with the sole as the stump wasnt level.. i'll pop a vid up if i manage later, next weeks test on the other boot will be done at lower rpm to try and clog the sprocket..

Ive seen a few of this type of vid/test.

I wonder though how good a normal leather steel toe cap would stand up to a chainsaw running across the boot compared to a chainsaw boot doing the saw.

Rather than trying to cut the boot in half.

I bet an 088 to the top of the thigh on full throttle would destroy many chainsaw pants.

uhhm good reminder that unless you use a sub 50cc saw that no saw protection on the market will stop a pro 60cc+ saw!!!what do you do though.... maybe like the comision we could all use nothing over a 346xp???!!!!! maybe a good wake up call to any one reading this !saw pants and boots offer no real protection.

Any saw at full throttle will cut through pants.

I know, I have the scar to prove it unfortunately:laugh1:

That was back when pants were pants and made from 85 layers of the finest ballistic. You used to sweat just walking to the truck in the yard in the mornings.

An instructor down here has a party trick of cutting old ballistics layed over a log, just to prove that they dont work if, as Huck says, you have your finger on the throttle.

a saw probably would rip them out instead of snagging against metal wires.

the class 1 protective materials are 20m/s which is a fair speed, but it would only be rundown when you are most likely to dig it into a body part.

i snagged just above my knee on rundown, got two small holes from two cutters, was almost stopped and i only got two small holes in the outer fabric
