What exemption is that?

 

I dont know Andy, things may have changed now but when I had a brand new Iveco 35.10 I took it to iveco and they told me that in europe they are rated for 5.5 ton but are plated down to 3.5t over here.

 

The only difference was a rubber bump stop and something else on the suspension, in other words very easy to uprate back to 5.5t.

 

I only used my iveco very locally and only on friday and sat and did less than 50 mile per week. They told me because I worked within a certain radius I could get tacho and operators license excempt or a specail one

 

Now I know I am "specail" but I dont think they meant that :biggrin:

 

All this was ten year ago so things could have changed

I think that one might have been left behind.

AFAIK

 

Currently the only exemption based on distance is one for vehicles operated to and from your own land. Unless anyone else knows better.

if you are going to the hassle of changing the rating of the vehicle it may be worth considering chopping in the Daily for a 7.5t lorry and downrate it to a 6t. That way you wont be overloading the vehicle and will have more room for chip.

 

As you say changing the rating (particularly upwards) can be a problem.

 

I would look for the 50C17 or 60C17

 

5 or 6.5 gross and a whopping 170hp to cope with those troublesome hills when loaded to the roof rack and dragging a chipper.

im a self employed hgv driver and have had many discussions with the agency owner and for a small fee he is capable of being an opperator of any hgv so instead of sitting a course aproach people like this as theyre the ones get the sh1t if you go over your hours the agency i use is driver hire and they are nation wide
