If you have the serial numbers how can you find out if its stolen or not?

i mailed the guy through ebay says the unit was his but it was lifted and when it was recovered and returned the numbers were gone, was saying that it gets serviced regular at global, the email read like he was a decent guy.

 

if someone is interested im sure you would view it first before you buy it anyway.
