i like the film but find it depressing. did you know the guy who wrote the book voluntarily took electric shock treatment so he could write more about it... not my cup of tea really

Ken kesey (author and founder of the Merry pranksters) volunteered for US Military tests on LSD during the fifties. He wrote the book and a lot of the scenes of insanity was taken from experiences during those military trials.

 

He enjoyed the trip so much that the Merry Prankster, led by kesey went on to do the Electric Kool Aid acid tests. Before LSD was illegal they would go to college proms and fraternity parties and spike the hell out of the punch.

 

Later they had links with the Grateful Dead who were in the house band for the Acid tests they started running themselves.

 

Kesey was also and american college wrestling champ.

The Grateful Dead are my favourite band.

 

Kesey was an intriguing fella with loads of charisma. Tom Wolfe wrote a book called the Electric kool aid acid test. Good book if your interested in Kesey or the dead.

Watched this film last year, used to think it was funny 20 years back. Jeez it's hardcore.. yet its a good film.
