Rob, i have just re read your comment and realised i mis interpreted your wording. I thought you were saying you did the bore cut, then cut your hinge, but i realise not now.

dropped this birch against direction of lean, took some fair beating with a freshly cut oak wedge and the axehead, it was in the quarrybottom so was quite tall.

thanks for the kinder words than what i was expecting. But it is one of those things you have to put down to experience, im glad it happened where it did, where it would only have damaged brambles and other bits of foliage.

 

I do love those big stihl ali/wood wedges, some serious lift of those bad boys.
