I am interested, i have posted, i am bothered, so do i not qualify as a worthy debater for a thread you started and are not bothered about?

 

Yeah of course. Maybe I shouldve worded the original thread starter better. Maybe I shouldve said "this came up in conversation today, what do you guys think".

Because I started the thread, some of the answers felt personal to begin with. So when you said about loosing jobs I was thinking you meant me, not generalising. Sorry bud.

The aerial rescue is to easy, I don't think lt really matters about the others.

 

I was the dummy in a rescue exam once, it took the guy 40 mins to get me down and he passed!

 

Any kind of serious bleed and I'd have been dead before i reached the ground, if the cs38 is to be fit for purpose they should get 20 mins max maybe 15, otherwise there's not much point in having it at all.

I think NPTC tickets are too easy and like a previous analogy are similar to a driving test, allows you to drive a car but doesn’t necessarily teach you how to drive.

I'm not trying to change anything. I couldn't actually give a rats arse about anyone elses habits or work ethics or practises. I only work with people I KNOW are competent. I was merely opening up a healthy debate as I've been a bit bored of Arbtalk lately.

 

I like watching newly qualified "arbs" working and then remarking " are you sure they said you passed?" haha winds them up a treat.

 

My thoughts are that the NPTC certs give you a provisional license and then your employer will give you the apprentiship, teaching you the why's and wherefores.

However the current system allows a landscaper to do 3 weeks training and then add "tree surgery" to their sign writing. Enabling them to be fully insured aswell.

 

The thing is, you don't have to do any training to add 'tree surgery' to your sign writing. Or to get insurance. It is a misconception that it is a 'legal' requirement.

 

This is a good debate though, Frank.

 

Although it is making me a bit depressed.

 

In my head, I am swinging round a canopy wearing cool gear and Oakleys, huge saw hanging from my harness, cock-rock turned up to 10, pub full of admiring mates and nubile groupies begging me for the days stories when I swagger in covered in sawdust with £20 notes falling out my pockets.

 

In reality I have been swinging round a thorn hedge with no harness and dragging conifer over dog-mess strewn lawns, and my wife tells me I stink when I walk through the door and reminds me the mortgage money is due again.

 

I am 'fully NPTC qualified', though, so I take some comfort from that!

Your a very valid debater and most welcome. Wether your interested in the thread or not, I'm not sure. If you were actually interested in the thread I wouldve expected your answer to have been along the lines of "mmmm interesting Frank, I think the NPTC should do.........."

If you don't want to hear others opinions, because thats all they are then don't start a thread. The worst thing you can do is rehearse what you want others to say, coz when you click on that button and read something else you are most probably going to be disapointed, like you have been with mine, then you have taken it personally and the wrong way, i am giving you my input from what i have seen and picked up in my life, nothing personal, no digs just what i think, and every post i read on here adds to my experience and learnings. What I wanted to discuss was current NPTC units and training, not "scrap all college courses and who has ever rescued someone".

 

I want to get in to training and have been thinking about current standards alot.

Stephen as a newbie to the site I love your replys .

 

I am not qualified but I have used saws and climbed for years .

 

Just because you have tickets it dosnt make you safe ,nore does having years of experiance .

 

As I witnessed many a dangerous thing by so called tree workers.

 

I think I am going to enjoy my stay .
