At 48 and after 25 years of unloading by hand I reckon I'm entitled to take it a bit easier.....only a bit mind.......

its going really well thanks huck , had some teathing trouble at first and probably could have saved all that had i gone to AC Price but hey thats all experience and you learn from it , i have a few bits and pieces to do to it but im really pleased with what it can do and how much work it has saved , its firs job was in a cemetery where we had a row of 6 large pines to take out , the speed that we could large amounts of brash made it great and to top it off we shifted all the timber with it in no time , i have now binned the tp chipper and hope will be picking up the kwick chip from yourshire in just over a week which should be great , then i guess i will be looking for a timber trailer and crane . At first i could not understand why the get bigged up so much but now having owned one and used it i can see why , im now actually looking forward to the winter time where we get alot of faults for westen power in which we cant normally get accross floded fields etc in a ranger and towing a chipper .

had/does anyone use the timber cranes that fit onto a 3 point linkage ? it seems like a good idea but having not used one i dont know how it compares to truck mounted cranes or trailer mounted craines

I've lost count of the number of times I've been thinking "I don't have that much work in" and within a couple of days I'm thinking "how the hell am I going to get all this work done in time".

 

I try to just relax now, the work just keeps coming, I've never run out of work in 17 years, so why would it happen know.

 

I guess because we are the bread winners, we can't help worrying a bit.

Spot on Mate. I know I shouldn't worry but when I'm down to my last two weeks I cant help but worry and then all of a sudden the phone goes again.....

The end result of using machines is that the cost of the service or product is cheaper.

 

The benefits along the way are that its physically easier ie no log moving by hand or brash slashing in a truck/skip.

 

I wonder if I would have more work if we had no chippers and chainsaws?

 

Jobs would take a lot longer but the price would be much higher.

I buy it to make money, i employ others to make me money and i am in business to make money. Yes working with a horse in cart and a bow saw will keep you busy, if it is more profitable then do it. I down sized to just a micro chipper and van as i didnt want to struggle if there was hard times since i now have kids, but as the work still came in and i got busier and busier again i bought some more kit to be more productive on other jobs, but the end result is so i make the maximum money on every job for the least amount of work.
