My 14 year old son is looking to buy an old short wheel based Landrover Defender (pref post 1990 with power steering)....can anybody point us in the right direction of where to look, who's selling etc. We're in south west Scotland but will travel if the right thing comes along.

cheers,

Yvonne :001_smile:

get a series motor

the steer isn't as difficult as you'd think you jus have to learn to only steer with the vehicle moving

on top of that there very simple to learn spannering on with cheap parts

and insurance is cheaper than a hatchback when he starts driving

Thank you guys! :)

He's had his heart set on a Landy for years and is now the right age to get his hands dirty, get into the guts of it and learn how they work. Will get him to have a look around on autotrader to see what's available and I'll say to him to have a look at the series motors too. (I'm sure he'll have great fun with it when he eventually saves up enough money to buy one....he's working in our company during his holidays to save up enough cash to buy one).

get a 200 tdi or 300 tdi , theres plenty out there that havnt been abused but theres also plenty that have so id steer clear of anything that looks like its been dragged through a mud pit day after day .

ur best bet is to find someone that has a bit of knowledge about them as theres certain things that you should check for but probably wouldnt if you dont know much about them , high milage ones shouldnt be disregarded if they have service history as one that has been looked after and done 200,000 miles could still be better than one that done 90,000 and treated like crap

imo i wouldnt get anything other than a 200 or 300 tdi parts are cheap and ten to the dozen , the N/A engines were slow as horse and cart and the later turbo deisel had some issues ! .. and if hes thinking of buying a td5 then he has way too much money !:thumbup1:

happy hunting
