Nice action shots, cheers. Just wondering from an outsiders point of view, when your taking down a big lump of a tree like that, what ratio do you use for the felling notch, is more 50:50 compared to a smaller tree?

Also - how do you gage not getting your saw jammed when cutting such a deep notch?

Skillmagill me thinks, and not something i'll ever be trying lol.

a bigger hinge is important with a larger tree ,that one might of been a little big but it was spot on ,tree went exactley where it was suppost to ,as for the farmer and his lunge he saved us getting rid of all the chip ,little anoying hovering around all day tho

Beautifull mate. never seen that method of narrowing the trunk to fit your bar before but it looks like it works well enough.

Funnily enough, thats what i was going to ask about!

Tim, can you explain why you cut off the feathers as it is not a good practice to get into?

Nice bit of timber though:thumbup1:

T he reason i trim off the buttreses is to make it smaller at the base ,if it were all for fire wood i would of felled it heigher ,bit it was destine to be a saw log so needed it to be as long as possible ,i gained atleast 8 '' in diameter
