Cheers lads glad yous use the same cuts and like them I've learned a few cuts over the years but not always the names I just know what works for me and feels good I seen an old boy drop a tree with a real bad lean by penciling the bottom like a beaver would but with a saw not his teeth haha

Just a thought... I work with a guy way more experienced than myself and when winching and felling back leaners does the backcut below the bottom of the face. Especially when the pull rope may not be placed high due to the integrity of the wood. The low back cut stops the tree/top from falling back if the hinge gives . Maybe the dude in the vid is combining this with the bore and release method?

I think there is a danger of overcomplicating things sometimes.

If there is high risk, a systematic approach to removing weight/sections as necessary, although more time consuming, can usually make felling more predictable and safer.

Mind you, where's the fun in that, eh?:001_tt2:

Errmmm......:001_tongue:

That wasn't a reference to some of the really useful (and safe) techniques you and others have posted on here, Dean.

I would rather fell with a hand axe than spike 4 feet up a tree and knock a top out with a 66 that is being pulled by a tractor, though!
