Knew there was a hole in the limb further down so proceeded with caution untill we found this chap further up the stem

Moved him to the hole further down and left the tree will be back in the winter i expect

A close shave.

 

At first I thought it was a younster, but I suppose they don't have the red bits.

 

Could have been worse.

 

Could have been Ants, Hornets etc!

It was a youngster doubt it could fly, luckily we were working out of a mewp so made it easier to move the bird. I also cant take all the credit as i was working with paul who is also a member on here (before he moans about me not mentioning his work too). Definitely satisfying knowing that he was ok thought i hit whatever it was in there when we saw his red head but then realised it was a wood pecker. I wonder if thermal imaging wood have picked this up?

there was a hole about 3-4ft below their hole and the mother was about, so put it in there, didn't want to leave it in their current one as it would be open to the elements and no way of getting to the other as it was on the under side of the limb
