Fat little mullein caterpillar on, of all things, mullein! Oddly last year the mullein was ignored in favour of the buddliah (sp?) a couple of metres away...

I've just come across this thread and thought this might be of interest to some of you.

 

Lobster moth caterpillar that I found in an ancient oak woodland in Gwynedd. The woodland has been managed for years by the CCW (now NRW) for mosses and lichen.

Lucky indeed! I've been in the woods all my life (30 years) and it's the first I've seen.

Pic below shows it on the top strand of some stock fencing and that is how we found it. We'd erected the fence the night before!
