The padding on the back of the left hand is not to prevent you from cutting yourself, Its there to stop the chain brake handle from braking the bones in your hand when you get kick back,

With chain brake handles now mostly being made from plastic and not metal this is now less of a problem. :)

the left hand glove is designed to stop a saw thats why the glove has a class rating of either:-

class0 16 meters per second or

class1 20 m/s

Your right saying that gloves have a class rating, but come on think about it are you really going to cut the BACK of your left hand, and can you answer me this?

Why isnt the back of your right hand padded??

Why arent the palms padded or cut resistant?

Anyway both hands should be on the saw when cutting so wouldnt it make sense that its padded to stop injure from the chain brake handle?

I'm not having a Dig 3Dogs :)

the protection within the glove was introduced before the introduction of the origional sweedish brake. when the only thing between the bar and the top handle was the left hand. because the right hand should be opperating the throtle it dos'nt require protection. the sweedish brake was initally a front hand gaurd which incorperated a chainbrake it has since been supaseaded by the inertia chainbrake. i agree that since the introduction of the front hand gaurd the gloves are probably unnessacary, but your argument was that they did'nt offer protectin.

My Health and safety manager at work has a pair of mitts and swears by them, but then his idea of safe lone working when felling in 120 acres of woodland is that I call him on my mobile if there's a problem! I prefer company with a 2nd saw, 1st aid kit and some coffee!
