F.B.I's most wanted!

F.B.I being Fungal Bracket Investigators!

So rarities here only, heres a few to get us started, and someone has Hericium erinaceus here so get it in here!:thumbup1:

Hericium cirrhatus on Fagus sylvatica Ashridge park

Hericium corralloides on fagus sylvatica Burnham beeches

Polyporus quercina on Quercus robur (roadside) radlett in herts!

Volvariella bombycina on Aesculus hippocastinum

Inonotus cuticularis on fagus sylvatica- Burnham Beeches

Nice shot of V.bombycina Tony, but where is the shot of the Oak Polypore ?

All I can see is a possible Oxyporus populinus

Do you have a good microscope ? If so take a tiny sample and look for plenty of hyphal clamps, on the other hand, if it is still there and looks the same, you will know immediately it cannot be the Oak Poly.

Long since gone forest, and Im 100% confidant of poly, this was defo an annual, not a perennial, will show you some other shots when i rework the thread in a fortnight, got a developing H. erinaceus on beech to shoot!

Shame you didn't take a sample to dry and send to Lynne Boddy at Cardiff Uni.

This would have been the first record of Oak Poly to grow on bark instead of heartwood on an Oak which may not be at least 250 years old.

Still, there's always next July. ;)

You dont have to believe its the polypore thats absolutley o.k with me:001_smile: the fact you think it resembles oxcy is more than enough for me to have as much a giggle at your expense too:001_tt2:

I leave you this image to have a little ponder on how low an opinion you have of my ability to determine species of bracket fungi!

the tree is over 250 years old, is dead and had a bee colony of some size:001_smile:
