How do you come across these????? when I go out looking all i seem to find is the odd Birch polypore or ganoderma!!

Practice and knowing ones prey is a big help!

Ive been doing this for well over ten years and almost daily I am on the prowl!

learn to recognise the habitats, the hericiums will be found in ancient beech woodland, the oak polypore is restricted to a few sites, Windsor is the major one I believe. Volavariella, well so far it seems to be a lover of very old chestnuts (horse)

Fungal communities take many many years to build and become diverse, and a great deal of complex and niche micro habitats must be formed for them to thrive, each one has its particulary fancies.:001_smile:

Im 2 mins down the road from WindsorGP should go and have a walk around on Sunday!.

About 5 years ago I was walking the dogs up Queen Anns walk and bumped into Ted Green who was excited about some rare fungi he had found in a tree. The shame was I wasnt in trested in fungi at the time, I cant remember what it was and I could kick my self now!!!
