Sawdust Wanted

Fair enough John. I understand where you're coming from and I wouldn't have got involved if it hadn't been the fellow posting was a newbie. I don't think he was trying to take the mickey but I suppose it could come across that way to someone who knows the business.

I was thinking that from my point of view I'd be happy top give away sawdust from milling operations if someone wants to come in and clear it up - perhaps I'm being naive in that I produce something I could sell but from looking at other threads this is only the case if its kept clean and bagged.

If it was bagged clean in ton bags (not weighing a ton but .65 cubic meter) how much is it worth a) wet/fresh b) dried to 8% to 14%? And does it matter if it is produced by chainsaws?

Chainsaw milling produces huge amounts of sawdust and its something I could mention to those who buy a chainsaw mill and are nearby someone who produces pellets.

I normally supply standard IBC containers for collection and pay minimum £5 per tonne for MC of 8-12% we can accept higher MC but we do not pay for water. Chainsaw milling is ideal for briquettes but a bit coarse for pellets.

John - not sure if you missed my post before. Can you post details and pics of your briquettes please. Depending on price and specs I may be interested in some for resale.

Cheers,

Andy

Sorry for not replying. Majority of my output at the moment is not from Virgin Timber sources so cannot be used in domestic stoves only commercial Waste Incineration Directive approved boilers. If your still interested send me a PM

We produce about a cubic metre of beech saw dust if we use our processor for a couple of hours. and we have bags of untanilised offcuts from kindling production are you far from Hampshire.

If you were nearer I would certainly have it but the cost of trucking it to Bolton would not make it cost effective. Realistically we can collect economically within a 50 mile radius of Bolton.

If you had enough raw material you could briquette at your place as the briquette machine is more portable then the pellet press and I run the machine off a portable 3 phase generator anyway. The only other thing needed would be a woodchipper to produce a small enough chip to feed into the hammer mill.

Sounds interesting but I am working 6 1/2 days a week and dont get time to tidy up at the moment. Just keeping up with machine maintenance. So I dont want to start any more projects. Good luck with your search for material.
