Dropping down a bar size

The smallest saw i use is a little ms170, with 14inch bar. Are there any advantages in dropping down a bar length, i.e. a 12 incher?

Will i achieve faster chain revolutions or anything like that?

you will get faster chain speed which also makes it cut faster, but you wont really notice it going from a 14 to a 12.

enough to notice on a 200t have just down sized and the saw is much better balanced..

ms200t is a totally different kettle of fish though isnt it compared to a backhandled saw.

really i thought chain speed was dictated by engine RPM and the drive sproket size, yes it will accelerate better but i dont think the chain speed will be any faster

I agree, if the sprocket is spinning at the same speed then the chain is also moving at the same speed.
