Hi,

Needc to make my mind up regard which log splitter to purchase and welcome any suggestions and advice. Photos would be great also.

Will be producing roughly 150 pick up trucks worth of wood next winter, maybe more, so i need a fairly decent reliable one. not a hobbie one from argos!! I prefer the hydrolic ones to a cork screw and i have a 60hp tractor. Am also comsidering a self propelled one which i could tow with pick up as i have 3 wood heaps and only one tractor. all views and tip greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I have been using a Thor 12 ton hydraulic for the past 3 years. It has never let me down, and the only maintainance it needs is a regular grease. I have modified it so that it can be used one handed, handy when splitting 40" lenghts. We are using a nuffield 10/60 to power it, which is fine, but we have borrowed a 100 horse power tractor which makes the splitter unstopable. This is good for knotty wood as the splitter will cut the knots that do not split. It also has a hammer action if you want to send the pieces into the next county !

havent had experience with any log splitters, but did look at the riko last year, it did look a well made and user friendly bit of kit. the thor splitters seem pretty popular.

one of my customers uses a 30ton binderberger

I saw the riko ones at capel, I thought they seemed really well built, I would go for one with the operating levers by the side of the table on the gripper arms tho, not up at eye level.

I run a 16 / 8 ton woodline PTO one and its great, it has been pretty reliable except for a cable on the linkage which was cheap to replace.
