But I have also noticed that on occasion a member will put up a post containing information that totally contradicts information in an earlier post, such as number of staff, vehicles, chippers, etc,or years of experience,to name a few.

To be fair, times do change skyhuck. Personally, in just the last 3 months I have taken on 2 extra staff and bought a second truck. You can't expect someones business to stay the same forever.:icon14:

To me the forum is a great source of info and learning from others is an invaluable resource.

IMO people should put more in their profile with relation to experience/business standing but this does not have to be specific personal info (perhaps part of the registration process?) that can be updated when applicable in their profile.

The danger with the bullshit factor to me is greater for those with less experience. These are the people that the site should be encouraging, but they may have difficulty deciphering the bull from the truth with consequences that do not bear thinking about. This is where moderators should step in – any exaggerated posts with interpretation that could lead either directly or indirectly to safety related issues.

That’s my 5p worth, ill shut up now.

Biggest problem is at what point would you say mods should step in? Safety issues...... eg one handing a saw, this debate has raged on and off for ages, some sites have not allowed video or pics showing this practise, and have been criticised for this. So should such footage be moderated here? I dont think so, I think that maybe a footnote from the subscriber along the lines of "this is how I do it, but it does not comply with HSE recommendations" may ease consciences.

I think the original point is that blatant lying does get some peoples backs up, whether online or down the pub, and you can soon choose to ignore a liar.

Coal?! You were lucky! When I was a lad, we dreamt of eating coal. Coal was have been like caviar to us, sat in our soggy cardboard box in the middle of the road, with nothing to eat but broken glass!

Hah hah! I was just thinking the same when I scrolled down to your quote!

Coal! He had coal? You had a cardboard box in which to live, and glass to eat? You lucky buggers!

When I was litle my family lived in a puddle, all ten of us, and for supper we ate each others fingernails.

Sleep, at least you got some sleep!

We were kept awake every night by ma pushing dirty needles into our eyeballs!

And then around midnight every night, Dad would come home drunk from the pub, and murder us in cold blood with a rusty mallet!

Just taking off my hat for that one. :)
