Spent 18hours a day in the holds of coal tankers. 100ft straight ladders, no harness, just kicking and shoveling coal in the dark. Third world labourer. But when you are in a rut you are in a rut. Took me 2years to save up for harness and spikes, then i lied to a company in glasgow and said i could do it, they gave me a chance. Never been so scared in my life. BullXXXt baffles brains every day. stuck it for 6 months working every hour i could working with boys that would steal the sugar out your tea. Then along came the 1999boxing day storm. The rest is history. 10 year anniversery coming up in 2 weeks.

I was at uni studying ocean surveying and really didn't want to end up in that profession as it is quite a specialized degree(stuck on a boat drawing maps...zzzzzzz), decided i wanted to climb trees(!?) so i quit uni and did volunteer work for a while to earn sponsorship to buy ppe, pay for nptc's and subsidize my wage with a firm in Cornwall. earnt peanuts working long days on the ground, 1st thins, fencing with the occasional bit of arb so i left there and got a job as a 2nd climber where i quickly found myself in the thick of it.treeguy for nearly 4yrs and been to the other side of the world climbing,

yeehaaaaa.

Bored of previous job/s, wanted something outdoors, with a landrover and a dog, looked in local agg college brocure, photo of bloke with landrover and dog on arb course page. Five years later still no landy or dog (yet), but love my job and wouldnt change it for the world.

I was working at Morrisons (supermarket) and that is enough to send anyone over the edge and retrain to do something worthwhile, 4 years on and I have now done an NC Arb and I love my job.

Kicked a football over the school fence and into a tree, the schoolmaster said to me, Bill you are getting six of the best for that, you've just lost the school football.

I was 8 years old, so I said, SIR, if I get the ball back will I be let off the caning?

He replied your not to go up there it's too high, and marched off to get his cane, (grinning at the thought of giving me a good thrashing).

When he came back I was on the ground with the football, (grinning back at him).

The B****rd still thrashed me for disobeying him.

At 50 years old still climb most days and run my own company, with a great bunch of guy's.
