I have no idea charlie, he just asked me if I had a tractor and if it had a front loader which I use for logs and chip. I just told them my apprentice doesn't go anywhere near it and he accepted that as ok.

With regards to the tirfor, I supposed it's because it can be used for lifting or lowering a load, not neccessarily that it will be :confused1:

I think they go well over board on a College H&S assessment myself :001_smile:

Don't let them see him driving it then!:001_tt2:

Could be right about the tirfor although isn't there a seperate insection that can be done on them to make sure that you have adequately maintained it for use, like you would do on other kit, ie chain catcher etc on a saw.

The college may well have people that have never been out of education so they only know how to do paperwork. Plus they'll want to cover their arse as much as they can.

hmm if you tow a trailer with people in it, do you have to have the drawbar tested as technically thats lifting people?

tractor steps should be done, as well then,

where does it end,

7The motive force of the equipment may be manual. For example, in the case of a worker hauling up a bucket of cement using a rope and pulley, risk considerations include the possibility of the rope breaking (overload, frayed rope, obstruction during hoisting, etc) but also factors affecting the operator, eg if they should let go of the rope (exhaustion, inadequate training, etc).

so do you need to be shown how to use the hand rail to get into a tractor, should you not be using the hand rail if you cant lift your own weight, or if your tired (weather you should be operating the tractor tired is completely different regs)

or is it best just to live in the real world and ignore the quirks of the system? i mean a climber falling because of a rope failing is one thing, but slipping off a set of tractor steps?
