I'd avoid them all except the TD4. The TD4 is a cracking engine that can be chipped and remapped and will be a awsome little motor. Our old un was chipped and would leave any other freelander standing.

Regardless of the names many people will call the freelander, they are very comfortable, economic and

capable off road. there have been a few viscous coupling issues but they aren't to expensive to sort.

My mates gaylander left me standing or should I say bogged down coming out of a very soft grassed field uphill.

I had the defender, with weight on, with Anacondas .

He had road tyres on. That traction control system is a cracking thing.

I have a freelander TD4 and would recommend it... The head gasket issues were confined to the 1.8 petrol models and the V6 petrol. If you are looking for diesel, try and go for the TD4 not the 2.0 D, the TD4 uses award winning Common Rail engine from BMW (Same as the 320i diesel). Regardless of what people call them, they are pretty capable off road and the decider for me over the Defender was the number of road miles I would be doing. The Freelander is a much comfier ride, and being 6'4" the Defender 90 was a bit cramped to say the least.:icon14:

thanks for the comments guys. i no everyone thinks there girls cars she-landers gay-landers but i would have a defender if i could get insured, it hard work getting insirance at 18 i pay £1400 on a saxo and thats a 1.1 and the running cost is much cheaper for a freelander cheaper tax for a diesel and i have read you can get up to 42 mpg but 36 average.

Think of the comments more as terms of endearment, they are very well respected off road and on.

My mates below that we cammed up while he wasn't watching.
