Lapsed pollards

Ok, title might be slightly misleading.....as these Limes were pollarded too late in life anyway, hence the decay. I started this job 4 years ago, selecting the worst trees to re-pollard first so as to leave some form of an avenue remaining. 6 werent even worth considering saving and were felled and replanted. Went back this week to finish the remaining trees. Sorry no before pics....the trees had on average about 30ft of growth, in various states of decline. The trees pollarded in the first cycle have put on a decent amount of growth in the past 4 years so hopefully they should hang on for a few more years to come

Interesting if monotinous job.

 

 

Really like working on old avenues, makes you think around the fact that you now have a part to play in someones landscape vision from the past.
