Hamas big reduction/pruning thread!

Willow reduction at a College boathouse today. Lots of fractured, hanging branches within the crown.

 

Almost before picture - after about an hours work removing some of the broken branches.

Afterwards, just before it peeed down.

now the crown has been opened it will shoot from within, and create oportunity to reduce properly and decrease levers. A desirable outcome in the longer term as the decay in the stem progresses in time.

 

Do you think that was that the intention? We'll have to wait for T&C's interpretation.

But following your train of thought removing inner crown growth (thinning)

in order to stimulate shoots from within:confused1:

Anyway it's a nice house (and tree!)

If you look closely at the tree you will notice it has been reduced. Maybe more of a thin on the top but the sides have been bought in. With Holm Oaks especially I tend to drop crotch/ reduce by thinning, due to the nature of Holm Oaks having little suitable growth to cut to inside the crown. To be honest I tend reduce many of my trees in this manner nowadays.
