Try burning wood pellets on a log burner.Somebody I know did and managed to change the shape of the stove.Nothing left of the baffle plate.

I took a stove off a customer recently, they'd put it out for scrap so I took it so I could put it in a field shelter up the yard. The back has a split in it and is warped, all due to running the stove too hot.

Mick,

Out of interest, what is bad about Poplar?

I know they burn quickly and spit and produce a larger quantity of ash but what is the heat like?

I have access to many White Poplars some of which are going to be dropped and split. Is it worth the effort (they are free)?

Thanks

I think it burns way too hot Nick, I just took a few bits from my yard the other day cos I was in a rush and the bits were already cut to size. Wont be using anymore though. Saying that, if I had nothing else and someone was giving it away I'd use it before I switched the central heating on.

a friend of ours said that cheaper stoves made in this country are only made out of mild steel and coated? but some from the continent like morso are completely cast iron? could this be a cause of warping - also do you get a better singe off a continental stove I would imagine one from brazil would singe all over?

Well the wife informs me that the ones from Brazil do in fact leave a little bit unsinged  however the ones from Hollywood do indeed singe all over :laugh1:
