I used to work for a guy with an RB 44.  It was Horrendous to drive in London especially with a chipper on it.

Just because it had a 4 an another 4 in the name didn’t make it that capable off road.  It would get stuck in a football pitch.

Mind you the guy had short arms and very deep pocket so it may have been a bit better if the tyres weren’t so worn.

I had the twin rear wheel civvy version of the RB44. With good tyres on it had very capable off road ability.

First picture is just after a twit (not me) operated the 3 way tipper with the pins diagonally opposed, second one is after the chassis was straightened, new ex military single cab fitted and chip box plus tool locker made.

Courtesy of Ebay it went all the way to the Falklands to work on a sheep farm.

As I mentioned the owner was pretty tight.

New tyres would have probably made a world of difference.

"Pretty tight" considerable understatement.

I remember when the gearbox blew on Hammersmith roundabout blocking two lanes day before a bank holiday. We had lost second gear weeks before but fatty insisted it was just a worn selector fork

I spoke to a guy with a Kraz 255 truck at a military show one time long ago, it was a feckin' enormous thing literally built to withstand just about any conditions you could throw at it, I asked him,"what about servicing and parts availability"

"easy" he said, "once a year we change all the fluids,, then we drink a bottle of vodka, crawl underneath and hit everything with a big hammer,,, if nothing falls off, we're good to go for another year":thumbup1:

Had a Matador back in the day. That was a good truck! Also had a couple of Bedford MK 4X4  trucks too! Left one at a mates yard when I finished and went to GreenMech.  It was still visible on Google Earth 20 years later!
