Free Gas Boiler?

Apparently, I could qualify for a free gas boiler replacement.  I could qualify as I got a health issue according to the door to door sales fellow. He is the third this week! Are they doing the rounds by you and what exactly is the deal? Who is paying for this? I did enquire during covid as I'm on stored hot water and there is two live here and we have an electric show so stored water seems a waste. I got told then that a new boiler would be a right chunk of money for very long payback time!

If it is similar to what we had round here - underfloor insulation in my case - local council had a pot of money to do with as they wanted for household energy efficiency. Used to be loft insulation when we first moved in, then underfloor insulation, double glazing and loft. So depends where you live if you get certain benefits (ours included child benefit - any parent then), illness, have (or more like don't have) certain energy efficient stuff (in my case, underfloor insulation) then they can use this fund as they want and with whatever qualifying criteria.

 

The company will install and bill whoever has the cash directly... if it is for free.

 

Also had a couple round, one was a grant - an interest free loan so they do all the stuff, no upfront cost ('free') and we'd pay them back over the next few years. The other was a sneaky grant - we'd get the improvements but the payback was a few pence added to the electric bill each unit. I think that last one kept with the house so future owners could be doing the payback if it is that... which might affect future house sale.

 

Worth asking them for more details though and to confirm it really is free and not a grant or loan. It is a thing, but got to check it out properly. There will be a scheme name to go with it that you can google.

 

 

 

(Our underfloor was going to be proper free but too short a space for 'the man' (by 1 brick depth), for a couple of hundred ££ was a DIY job instead.)

It can also be through carbon offsetting by large companies, they pay for the boiler and installation and due to bulk buying and carbon offsetting they can make money. Ask the doorknocker who's paying. 

We had external insulation fitted at a previous house and it was well worth it.

Get a lot of leaflets offering insulation, heat pumps etc. round our way at the moment. I feel anything they're pushing so hard is not for our benefit, but to relieve the government of money. I fear the job would be shoddy, and the installers would be long gone when the problems started. I could be cynical and wrong of course!

Only ones constantly around our place are the Watch Tower lot Jehovah's Witnesses. They do not knock my door any more 😁

They only send letters via royal mail round here, I was wondering if that's a nation wide thing or if I was just on some rural naughty list.

I did sarcastically suggest they all clubbed together and bought royal mail if they were sending that much.

 

Then wondered if they would be a two tier system dependant on if you believed or if they would put those stickers on your post like when you had photos developed in a tut tut puritan fashion.

 

I can just imagine a warehouse full of undelivered love honey packages mysteriously going up in flames!.
